Acharya N.G.Ranga Agricultural University established the second College of Food Science and Technology at Pulivendula in Kadapa district during 2008 to meet the demands of Food Industry in terms of human resources and to develop technically qualified personnel to cater better to the needs of the consumers. Food scientists and technologists are versatile, interdisciplinary, and collaborative practitioners in a profession at the crossroads of scientific and technological developments. The college is functioning with revised departments as per the ICAR 5th Deans Committee recommendations with experienced teachers to develop skills and knowledge to the students and organizing programmes on value addition and food processing to encourage entrepreneurship among rural women. I wish the College to excel in the days to come.

In India, there is an enormous potential for processing and value addition of food grains, pulses, meat, fish & marine, milk, fruits & vegetables, confectionery foods, etc. The Food Processing Industry in India is considered as a "Sun-Rising Sector". With altering the trends in food processing and job profile of the workforce, the nutritional rich, Ready-To-Cook (RTC), Ready-To-Eat (RTE), Ready-To-Serve (RTS) and Functional Foods have come into existence in order to make it much convenient for consumption and also to extend their shelf life. After assessing the increasing demand for qualified personnel in the field of Food Science & Technology, the College of Food Science and Technology at Pulivendula was established in 2008. The College is facilitated with good infrastructure, well equipped Iaboratories, food processing machinery and food quality control analytical tools. Apart from imparting world class education in the field of food science and technology, the college has various research progranunes, Student READY Experiential Learning Programme and Livelihood Business Incubation centre (LBI-C) in frontline areas. Our undergraduate program is designed to train our students to become "Entrepreneurs" with in-depth knowledge and intellectual intensity which is necessary to meet up the challenges of a time of critical transition in society. The tireless efforts, encouragement, motivation and quality education offered by the faculty resulted in good performance of the students. I wish the college can make outstanding contributions in serving its stakeholders in the years to come.

The College of Food Science & Technology, Pulivendula aims at promoting innovations and enhances the growth of food industry in India. The college is enriched with good infrastructure, well equipped laboratories with modern state-of-art Instruments / Equipment to provide Hands-on-Training to the students. It is believed that the college always strives to provide quality education to the students and train them to be an expert in the field of Food Technology. For all round development of the students, Extra-curricular activities like NSS, Physical Education and Yoga practices have been included as a part of syllabus. A Livelihood Business Incubation (LBI) Centre has been established in the campus in collaboration with Indian Institute of Plantation Management (IIPM), Bengaluru sponsored by Ministry of Commerce, Government of India. The main purpose of LBI centre is to provide and extend the technology to the farmers and simultaneously imparting Hands on Training to the students on various processing technologies, value addition, packaging methods and marketing of fruits and millets. The college is facilitated with Library, Digital Library and Reprographic Section for the staff and students. The separate hostel for Boys and Girls are provided in the campus with dining facility. Placement cell, SC-ST Cell, Women Protection cell, Anti Ragging Committee, Cultural Cell, Village Adoption Program (VAP), Skill Development Centre, Sports Cell, Student Teacher Council (STC) and different portfolios are actively working in the college to facilitate better environment and welfare of the students. We aim that our graduates to be the best quality human resources equipped with game changing plans and problem solving skills in the field of Food Processing Technology and become “Technocrats”. problem solving skills in the field of food processing and technology.

Background Of The College

The College of Food Science & Technology, Pulivendula was started during the year 2008-09 as a constituent college of Acharya N G Ranga Agricultural University, Lam, Guntur with an objective to cater the needs of human resources in the field of Food Technology to serve the Industry in Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh to increase manufacturing in the state. The College strives to provide quality education to develop skilled human resources in the field of food technology to meet requirements of modernized food processing plants, quality certification, food safety, etc.

Brief History Of The College

The foundation stone of College of Food Science & Technology, Pulivendula was laid by Late Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on 16.08.2008. An area of 32.63 acres of land was acquired through PUDA (Puivendula Urban Development Authority) funds for the establishment of the college. The College is in the midst of lush green fields of sweet orange gardens served by a water canal passing through the campus making a feast to the nature admirers. The ground floor of the building is having a 32,740 sq. ft. large enough to have class rooms, labs, office, library and an auditorium with a capacity of 200 students.

Admission Process

The admissions are made purely on merit basis. The Govt. of Andhra Pradesh conducts entrance examination for admissions into different degree programmes including Engineering, agriculture, horticulture, veterinary, etc., (APEAMCET). The admissions are made on the ranks obtained in the said examination. Both the streams of biology and mathematics are eligible for admission into B. Tech. (Food Technology). Admissions for the students from M.P.C. stream will be done by the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education along with the other branches of engineering where as for the students from Bi.P.C. stream will be done by Acharya N G Ranga Agricultural University. However, it is requested to look for the newspapers/ university website (www.angrau.ac.in) from time to time in view of upgrading the rules.
